Rescue teams from the Marine Police and the Government Flying Service are searching for a foreign worker who fell into the sea after a construction platform collapsed at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge project, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.

A Nepalese worker has been confirmed dead in the accident which took place at about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Workers were trying to disassemble the platform near the South Perimeter Road in Chek Lap Kok when it collapsed due to broken cables. Three workers fell into the sea. Two other workers — a Pakistani and a local — were hit by the snapped cables and were sent to hospital in serious condition.

Rescuers found Nepalese Gurung Anel, 22, in the sea hours later and rushed him to North Lantau Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Apple Daily. Another Nepalese, Thappa Paul Denedick, swam to safety but a Nigerian worker was still missing as of Thursday morning. A spokesman for the Labor Department said on-site investigations are under way. Meanwhile, the contractors were told to stop work until the department is satisfied that the necessary measures have been taken, a spokesman said.

The Highways Department, which supervises construction of the bridge, said it is cooperating with the search and rescue operations, as well as with the investigation. The accident was the ninth since construction of the bridge began in 2011, according to Apple Daily.

Cheapass French Company Dragage and another subcontractor United Company is responsible for their death due to lack of safety equipments and safety inspection. Do not work for them. R.I.P

It's clearly obvious that the contractor had a record history of providing inadequate safety equipment to the construction of the bridge. :76: Hopefully the Labor Department will fully and thoroughly investigate this incident.
