Police are searching for an alleged triad member who caused a fatal crash then forced the driver of another car to take him away from the crime scene. At around 4am, a Toyota seven-seater travelling towards Tuen Mun in the fast lane on Tsing Kwai Highway began veering erratically and crashed into a motorcycle in the second lane, HK01 reports.

The motorcyclist, a 52-year-old man named Wu Man-yuen, was sent flying. A cabbie who witnessed the incident called an ambulance to rush Wu to hospital. He was certified dead shortly afterwards. Police told the SCMP that they believe the van was driving at 120 kilometres per hour in an 80 kilometre-per-hour zone when it crashed into the motorcycle.

An eyewitness told Apple Daily that the driver of the seven-seater got out of the car before the front of the vehicle suddenly burst into flames. He was gone before firefighters arrived to put out the blaze. The man reportedly intercepted another car on the highway, whose driver had stopped in an attempt to assist the motorcyclist. Instead, the van driver got into the car, told its 28-year-old driver he was a triad member, and intimidated him into fleeing the scene.

According to the 28-year-old and his passenger — who were unharmed — the hijacker demanded to go to a petrol station on Tsing Yi Road, 5.6 kilometres away, then escaped on foot. He was described as a short-haired man of medium build in his 30s or 40s, standing at around 170 centimetres. Witnesses said he was wearing a dark t-shirt and trousers. No arrests have been made so far. The van is reportedly owned by a company which organises VIP events at Macau casinos.
