An apparently intoxicated man was arrested in Lan Kwai Fong in Central after causing a commotion as he brandished a cleaver while walking in the crowded entertainment district.

The 37-year-old man, surnamed Cheng, was apparently drunk when he stormed into Yung Kee Restaurant on 32 Wellington Street at around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Sing Tao Daily reports. Cheng grabbed a cleaver used for chopping roast geese from the restaurant’s kitchen and went out on D’Aguilar Street, swinging the large knife every which way and sending pedestrians scampering away. Police officers, including traffic enforcers, who were called to the scene drew their guns to prevent Cheng from hurting anyone.

According to hk01.com, a traffic police officer sneaked behind Cheng and grabbed the chopper, while his colleagues and several passersby joined in overpowering the man and holding him to the ground. When an officer asked him what he was doing, the man allegedly shouted, "Sir, I want to chop somebody!" Cheng was arrested and taken to a police station for investigation.

A bar worker said he heard people screaming when he was going home after work on D’Aguilar Street, and saw a slightly obese man swinging a cleaver in public. Police said three officers suffered bruises as well as cuts to their fingers and arms from tussling with the man. The case has been classified as possession of weapon, pending further investigation.

Why does someone do that? Your life must not be worth anything. SMH

He definitly has some sort of problem - possibly a mental problem to want to chop someone up. Being drunk sometimes does make you do things that you would not do when sober. It can also reveal what someone really feels or thinks. That is why some people have a drink for a bit of "Dutch courage" before they do something.

Im not sure what will happen to the guy buy maybe he should have some sort of mental evaluation to assess whether he is a possible threat in the future.

That crazy guy was sure lucky to be in HK where the police is not as trigger-happy as our police.

I'm just glad that nobody was injured by this guy. I hope that they will put him in a padded cell.

the crazy guy probably don't know he was doing at that time since he is drunk. the police did the right thing by putting him in the cell so he can calm down.
