A 68-year-old man was in a coma after being thrown out a bus in a traffic accident in Kowloon Bay on Tuesday, Commercial Radio reported.

The man was standing next to the exit door of a route 5M bus operated by Kowloon Motor Bus, when the vehicle turned right on Shing Kai Road near Skyline Tower at around 2 p.m. The sudden turn caused the man to be thrown off his feet, and he crashed through the vehicle’s glass door frame. He fell on the road and was unconscious when paramedics arrived and rushed him to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kowloon.

Police said they hadn’t seen such a road accident before. The bus, which commenced operation in 2009, was returned to the factory for a check-up. The 45-year-old bus driver said he stopped the vehicle after he heard some passengers screaming. The bus stopped around 20 meters away from the scene of the accident. A fellow passenger told Oriental Daily that the bus was not travelling at "high speed" and that male passengers should "hold on tight to things" to avoid such incidents. Police are currently investigating the case.

Whilst the passenger should hold on to something for safety, it depends how packed the bus is. Also for the glass to be that weak allowing a man to fall through begs a lot of questions.
