Seven men and a woman have been arrested for selling iPhone 6s dummies, passing them off as genuine. They tricked buyers into paying for the smartphones after showing them fake purchase receipts Ming Pao Daily reports. The group was responsible for eight separate incidents involving a combined HK$70,000 (US$9,000). The dummies were bought in mainland China and came with purchase receipts from a non-existent Hong Kong vendor. These came in sealed boxes and buyers were told to check the product after paying for it. The suspects disappeared once they received the money. Two people have reported being victimized by the gang to the police in recent months. They said they bought iPhone 6s smartphones HK$200 cheaper than the retail price.

In the latest incident the suspects used social media to advertise the iPhones and recruited teenagers to help push the products to unsuspecting buyers. The teens are paid several hundred dollars. Eric Wong senior inspector of the Tuen Mun district crime unit warned consumers should check whether they are dealing with reputable vendors and examine the products before paying for them.

It's never surprises me how people will try to turn a profit on anything! A guy actually walked up to me on the street one time and ask if I wanted to buy a phone. He actually tried to sell me a dummy phone! I just ignored him and walked away!

Checking the product only after purchasing it, something not right with that. That should've alerted potential buyers that there's something fishy going on.

that's why people should never buy anything from someone they don't know or familiar with! Never know what they are selling are real or fake!

nowadays these fakes look like the real thing. You have to be very careful when not buying from a shop. Thats y we always buy from Broadway.

It's better to pay a little more at a reputable store than be ripped off from a stranger.

I am glad that the police was able to arrest these eight people for selling counterfeit iPhones ... after this incident, hopefully people will purchase iPhones from the genuine Apple stores.

they deserved to be arrested for doing things like that. the police did a great job by arresting those people who are smuggling.
