A 34-year-old mainlander dubbed as “Spiderman” was arrested after he was found scaling the wall of a residential block at Melody Garden in Tuen Mun in a series of burglary attempts early on Sunday, Apple Daily reported.

The man, surnamed Wei, who entered Hong Kong via a two-way travel permit, used the water pipes on the external wall to climb up the block on Saturday night. By around 9 p.m., he sneaked into a flat on the 27th floor, but was not able to get anything. The flat owner, surnamed Lo, called the police after hearing noises and finding out that the windows had been damaged. Responding police officers did not immediately locate Wei as he had eased himself into another flat on the 26th floor around midnight.

The 22-year-old flat owner surnamed Yan said he saw a man lurking in the shadows when he returned home. Then he noticed his bedroom was locked. Yan turned on the living room lights and waited. Suddenly, Wei stormed out of the room and the two stared at each other for about 10 seconds. Yan asked him who he was, and the latter replied in Putonghua, “I give up!” Then the man dashed into the kitchen. Yan heard a big bang. He called the police. Police spent an hour hunting down Wei but failed to find him, until an Apple Daily reporter took heed of debris falling from height and discovered a man moving on the wall outside the 19th floor. Police threw a spotlight to the wall and found Wei hanging on to waterpipes. Wei, with the help of responding firemen, surrendered to the police after a 40-minute standoff. He was charged with attempted burglary as the two flat owners did not find any missing items in their homes.

That is just a stupid not to mention dangerous way to break into an apartment. As you could easily slip and kill yourself.

What a dangerous way of robbing people at night. Also, 9pm is not that late. People should still be awake.

That's is quite the risk, any mistake could have led to a very long fall. Surprised that the police weren't able to initially find the culprit.

That is dangerous and stupid. If he slips, he can fall to his death. Also 9pm is such an early time, people are bound to be awake.

Lol, came all the way from mainland to steal in HK. I'm sure there are plenty of mainlander billionaires who have plenty of stuff to steal. Does parallel sale really make it worth it lol
