A 54-year-old man killed a rival by stabbing him 27 times in front of men playing mahjong, Hong Kong’s High Court heard yesterday. At least two villagers from Sheung Shui Wai in the northern New Territories saw Liu Sun-kong knife Liu Wing-sang in the abdomen and chest in May last year, prosecutor John Dunn told the court. The victim sustained 27 stab wounds but died from one to his heart, the SCMP reports.

Liu Sun-kong was apparently seen beating Liu Wing-sang outside a public toilet before chasing him into a shop where men were playing mahjong. One witness reportedly saw Liu Wing-sang run into the store covered in blood with the defendant closely following with a knife. Another said he saw Liu Sun-kong stab the man in the chest and stomach. The defendant fled the scene but was later arrested with a blood-stained knife (otherwise known as a "smoking gun") in his bag.

Under caution, he told the police that there was bad blood between the two families, adding "He beat me up a few times. I was simmering with rage so I took him out." He has not denied the killing but claims he was provoked, and is therefore pleading not guilty to murder. The trial continues.

If that guy had been assaulting him numerous times he should have reported it to the police and not stab his abuser to death!

What a waste of life. if he's as bad as that guy claim, take him to the police! Why ruin your own life by killing him? Crazy.

Murder is murder, sounds like all the little things added up and the man snapped. The police can't always intervene, especially if no laws were broken regarding this bad blood.
