A massive medical scandal has broken out at Tuen Mun Hospital, after it was revealed that a machine that analyses liver enzymes has misread the results of up to 4,000 patients, reports Ming Pao.

The machine, which was purchased two years ago by the hospital’s Department of Pathology, is used to assess liver function and bone conditions of patients. However the machine’s reference range was calibrated for the elderly, affecting test results of thousands of patients.

A press conference is currently being held with Que Tak-lun, director of the Department of Pathology at Tuen Mun Hospital, and Ko Pat-sing, Cluster Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority's New Territoris West Cluster.

nice little medical scandal based on lack of equipment knowledge. Such sensitive equiment should be periodically checked with reference data & recalibrated if the results are off by a hair.

Just in time when windows 10 will be out tomorrow. They will need an alternative method to give the affected patients a more accurate reading.

My god, this is serious. Patients with the wrong diagnosis will be getting the wrong treatment or advice. This should not have happened as it involves lives.
