Hong Kong pop star G.E.M. performed at the Venetian in Las Vegas on Saturday night. According to Apple Daily, concertgoers report that G.E.M. was heckled by audience members for speaking mostly in Mandarin throughout the show. "You are a Hongkonger!" they reportedly shouted. Some attendees also claimed that she was singing off-key.

On Sunday G.E.M. posted a message on her Facebook page saying she’ll “never give up” no matter how difficult the road ahead becomes. The Shanghai-born Hong Kong singer, currently on her second world tour, has been very popular since her 2008 debut EP.

It shouldn't matter whether she speaks Mandarin or Cantonese does it? She has a good voice and is a good singer - that is good enough for us :)

I think if that's what she feels comfortable speaking mandarin, why shouldn't she? I think it's a bit much too boo her.

When she sang Mandarin songs for the majority of her HK concert, I felt a bit sad. However, this is Las Vegas, and as an ABC living in one of the most Asian populated cities in the US, I have been exposed to many more Mandarin speakers than Cantonese speakers. She was just trying to act accordingly.

Why is she always involved in all these controversies? About her driving and taking photos, singing mostly her "I am a Singer" songs in her concerts, etc.

Wow really hard to please everyone. But GEM really do have a lot of negative news recently, maybe when one gain fame more people like to dig news on them. But to me it doesn't matter what language as long as the concert is a good show and everyone enjoys it. :)

As long as she sings good, I can care less, she can speak in Spanish for all I care

I don't understand.. whats the problem with speaking mandarin?

although I guess she should have considered which language most people will be speaking at the different location?

If they always had spoken cantonese then why speak in Mandarin?? Hongkong stars must use own language, not the official.
