A case was heard in District Court regarding an embezzlement case. A former female executive director of Surgery Department of Hong Kong University, aged 41 years old, called Chen Xiuhong, pleaded guilty to charges of misconduct in public office for shopping with a credit card issued by Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine in 2004 to 2006 that resulted in 3 million overdraft. During sentencing, judge said the defendant breached trust when she stole from university funds violating employer's trust. He reduced defendant's sentence to 22 months imprisonment due to defendant pleading guilty with no criminal record who had repaid 90 percent of the money and he believed defendant committed the crime due to stress from work and marriage. Judge also regretted that defendant used a wrong approach - squandered money to reduce stress when the defendant had worked hard in her life to obtain both Bachelor's and Master's degree which led to a successful career.

Well .. when you have power and money in your hand, it's a great temptation not to abuse it.

Many people who own a company car know that it should reserve only for work use yet they still use it for personal errands .. it's human nature sorta speak. But in this case, the exec kinda went over the top with $3 millions .. that's a big figure.

I wouldn't say this woman's life is over after her release. Her degrees and experiences will never go away; all she has to do is move else where and start fresh. With her background, it's not difficult to get back on track.

I'm surprised. She earned both a Bachelor and a Master degree and she still stole money from university's funds. I guess money is too tempting for anyone to resist.
