Female teacher sues school for sex discrimination

Yesterday by "the Sex Discrimination Ordinance," Equal Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit on behalf of a female teacher surnamed Kwong against Ma On Shan Fung Yiu King Memorial Secondary School and the Chinese Women's Club. Plaintiff referred to the principal Sun Lei-Wah saying to female teachers only wardrobe to be a skirt at a time before the semester began, but Plaintiff insisted on wearing trousers to school in September which prompted Sun Lei-Wah to immediately summon her for a face to face lecture. Later Sun approved plaintiff to wear trousers to school, but made comments of her outfit in front of students twice causing stress, anxiety along with feelings of threat on plaintiff who resigned from the job three months after. Plaintiff stressed that the hiring contract did not identify skirt as a mandatory wardrobe and no dress code had been set for male teachers in the same school, proving such as sex discrimination, thus required a court order to have the school to not requiring female teachers to have to wear skirts, as well as needed compensation and a written apology from the principal and school organization.

EOC said it hopes to establish a precedence with workplace dress code by bringing this case to court.

There should be dress code in place in every work place for male and female. Good for her to sue the school, the head should be more flexible in the way the teacher dresses. He shouldn't have made comment in front of the students, that is very unprofessional coming out from the head of school, HE should resign!

Dress codes are needed for certain jobs but as for teachers, as long as it's not something too that exposes too much skin than it's fine. Female teachers shouldn't have to wear a skirt all the time or any at all...It really unreasonable.

first they should have a dress code written in the contract and once she is permitted to wear trousers then what is the point of making comments of her outfit..

That is just plain rude.

Contract or no contract, I don't see any valid reason for making a female teacher wear a skirt. (especially if he did say 'skirt'... teachers still have to bend over a pick up stuff you know...)

Yes there should be dress code in school for students and teachers alike. But female teachers only wearing skirts? The principal has gone too far. I don't see anything wrong with female teachers wearing trousers. Good for her, and I hope she win the case.

I think there's something wrong with the school dress codes. Students can wear anything they want when they go to school, but teachers have to set the standard and model by wearing dress that differentiate between themselves and the students. Having said that I think it is right for the female teacher to wear trousers to teach at her school, because teachers wearing skirts would be too revealing of their legs.
