A woman wanted for wounding case was arrested yesterday on 3 counts of charges including stealing drugs, assaulting a police officer and failing to produce identity document. She was detained in Sha Tin Police Station for investigation, during which she was left unattended in the room, and escaped taking advantage of a shift change. Police suspected some police officers neglecting duty, as well as police station having security loopholes. The case was referred to Sha Tin District Crime Squad for a thorough investigation, at the same time, the woman was wanted as fugitive to justice.

Nine o'clock last night, a female suspect by last name To (age 31) suspected of stealing painkillers and other drugs in a pharmacy near Sha Tin, Tai Wai Hong Kong Railway Station. A pharmacy staff discovered her stealing so the staff called the police. Police received a report sending uniform officers to the scene, but To resisted and assaulted a police officer, at the same time failed to produce identity document. After preliminary investigation, uniform police officers arrested To, and brought her back to the Sha Tin Police Station for further inquiries by the Criminal Investigation Team.

At midnight yesterday, the female suspect, To, was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Team by the uniform police officers, during which she was put into a room for continued investigation. But the room was once without the presence of police officers, as when police officers entered into the room, the female suspect had disappeared without a trace. The police searched everywhere in the police station for the female suspect, but they could not find her. Investigation is now transferred to the Sha Tin District Crime Squad Third Team.

Police had summoned the uniform officer and Crime Investigation Team officer responsible for the handover of the female suspect, at the same time police reviewed all closed-circuit videotapes of police station entrances and exits, in order to find out how the female suspect fled from the police station. Police spokesman confirmed that the female suspect brought back to Sha Tin Police Station had left without authorization during the investigation, so the police are seeking her whereabout, and will try in various ways to investigate the case.

it's very reassuring to hear that the police did such a great job with this case... as we all love it when a suspect can leave a police station so easily... well done lads.

I cannot believe how law enforcement officers mess up in this situation and let a criminal escape without noticing anything suspicious. One suggestion, police should handcuff the hands and chain/shackle the legs of criminals so they will not be able to escape easily.
