During the World War, Ju Xiang is tortured and both she and her husband die, leaving behind their 8-year-old daughter Yue Niang. After the war, Yue Niang's maternal relatives who ran away to England to seek refuge during wartime return home. Yue Niang then leads the life of her mother – always discriminated, beaten up and tortured. Yue Niang is then sold to a butcher, Liu Yi Dao. However, Yue Niang's strong personality impresses Liu Yi Dao and they become sworn siblings instead. Yue Niang decides to choose her own path in life. She begins learning how to run a business and she manages to overcome the odds and save her declining family business. Sadly, her love life has yet to begin a new chapter with no news about her lover, Chen Xi.

I really love this series. I'm a peranakan from Melaka and the portrayal of the baba culture is quite accurate. However, in certain scenes, they should have used the "malay dialect" used by the peranakans instead. I've watch this series 2 times.

This is the very first sg drama that I really watch thoroughly. I find the storyline worth watching even knowing the ending is not as expected.

I am half way thru this series ep 14, and I m already enjoying it so much. Really bring back a lot of memories for me. those kebaya's top which my handed down to be by my grandmother who I also called Ma Ma.

Remembering all those kueh which I once savoured (regret that I didnt bother to learn how to make them} Also the KoK Kok Mee which I used to eat when I was much younger. Memories, memories I starting to think bout my Ma Ma who also taught me Malay and English. My childhood coming back to me again....

was introduced to the series by a friend whose hometown is in Malacca, saying that the depiction of baba nyonya lifestyle back was pretty accurate. Only watched one episode so far, but must say am quite impressed with the series and am likely to recommend it to others once i've finished watching it!!

well, at least it was not those kind of predictable happy ending. The acting of some of the cast was quite stiff, but i think overall it's a good series.
